PMU: Outboards, AIS & DSC
We’ll start with Andy Gurkin from Dandy Haven Marina talking about outboards and other gasoline boat engines. Andy is a genuine expert with lots of experience on small and large outboards as well as large inboard gasoline engines. Andy’s the guy who has kept my 8 HP Mercury going for years. He’ll cover operator-level maintenance as well as lots of information about Ethanol and what it means for any marine gasoline engine. This is the first class on outboards we’ve had in four years, so if you have an outboard or an inboard-outboard or a venerable Atomic Four, this one’s for you. In fact, what he has to say will also be applicable to most lawn mowers! Our second class by Michael Webb from West Marine will cover AIS (Automated Identification Signal) and DSC (Digital Selective Calling): What they are, how they work, what your choices are, and how to install them. When these are integrated with GPS, they become even more impressive. Some people say this is better than Radar, and is the next GPS. If you have considered installing either a DSC radio or the AIS system, or both, this will help you make the decisions you need to make. Bring your questions and he’ll answer them. Important note: These classes will be at the OPCYC clubhouse, starting at 9 AM Saturday 30 Jan. There’s a lot to cover, so we’re going to try to start on time.
