Wanted - A Board Member for Publicity
The Old Point Comfort Yacht Club is one of the most active in the country with outstanding racing, cruising, training and social programs. We offer activities for every boater’s interest throughout the year. What we don’t have is a good way to publicize to the general public these activities to encourage others to participate in events or to join OPCYC as a member.
We are all proud of our club, and others are eager to learn more about us. Pointers who coordinate our many activities already write plenty about them before they occur and then interesting reviews when they are complete. We write about our many races, cruise captains publish summaries of our gatherings on the water, PMU reports are excellent highlights of our education and training, and party reviews always give pause to those who couldn’t attend them.
What the Board is looking for is a Pointer who wants to participate a bit more in the club and would like to take some of our various write ups and put them in the formats needed for other publications. One item a month is the likely volume. For example, the Spin Sheet is always eager to publish more about upcoming races and the results of completed ones. The Daily Press on the Peninsula and the Virginian-Pilot on the south side often print interesting announcements and reports about organizations like ours, especially when they are accompanied by great photos – and we have lots of them. The military newspapers like the Casemate are also willing to publish articles about activities that directly affect so many military members.
So, are you that interested Pointer? We all want to make OPCYC better each year. If you have any interest in trying this out and would like to talk about this new position on the Board, please call me to chat. No pressure here. Truly. But if you might be interested, please give me a call at home (868-6240) or drop me an email at seajack 'at' pfg-va.net.
Thanks for your interest. Jack Moran, Commodore.
