Extended cruise up the James to Richmond. If there is interest in an extended cruise to Richmond, Bob Williamson will stand by to lead it. Interseted! Sign-up Now!!!
Let's begin with the destination in mind. Can you cruise to Richmond in your trawler or even your sailboat with a 65’ mast and 6’ draft? The answer is: Yes you can!
You'll discovered that the “destination” is the journey up the James River more than reaching the city of Richmond. The trip can be best described as one of those cruises you dreamed about before buying your first boat.
The Baseball Cruise is set for Saturday June 30th. The sign-up sheet will be available shortly online. I need to finalize the reserved box
seat tickets NLT June 18th. The tickets cost $12.00 each in advance or $14.00 at the gate.
We’ll be cruising to Waterside Marina http://www.watersidemarina.com/ Saturday the 30th, have docktails or go out to eat, then catch The Tide, the new light rail train a couple of blocks from Waterside around 6:15. We will depart for home port July 1st.

Once again the OPCYC will set sail for York River Yacht Haven for the annual 4th of July cruise. YRYH is one of the most popular cruising destinations on the Bay. Since the 4th is on a Wednesday this year, our basic plans will focus on the 3rd and the 4th, although some cruisers will certainly arrive early or stay late. The folks at YRYH know we are coming, but other clubs are cruising there as well. To be safe, please make your slip reservation with them soon (804-642-2156) and mention that you are a member of OCYC at the time.
Yacht Cruisers and Land Cruisers, OPCYC is going to the Norfolk Tides game on July 17th and it is time to sign up for the event. The Norfolk Tides will be playing the Columbus Clippers at Harbor Park in Norfolk for a 7:15 game. As a bonus, the first 2000 kids (17 and under) will receive a FREE Norfolk Tides replica jersey courtesy of Coca-Cola and FOX 43 TV. We have a minimum of 25 box seats reserved along the first base line and if you have been to this event in previous years you know they are great seats so hurry up to get your tickets while they last. The cost is $10 per ticket.
Don’t forget to make your reservations for the night of July 31st at Smithfield Station. They will not hold the slips forever. They are holding 10 slips for the Club. Call them at (757) 357-7700 to make your reservations. Its first-call, first-serve.
Also, please give Robert a call at 489-8991 or send him a message at sunlion61 'at' msn 'dot' com if you plan to attend so we can set up dinner and Donuts.
This should be a real laid-back weekend. Hope you can join us.
The OPCYC annual calendar again lists two big events for the 4th of July weekend: our official cruise to York River Yacht Haven (YRYH) and Fireworks at the Fort.
YRYH is one of the most popular cruising destinations on the Bay. This year, YRYH will add to the attraction by providing a complementary continental breakfast on Saturday and Sunday mornings. There will also be classes for stained glass and beading. Just to confirm, the fireworks at Yorktown are scheduled for Sunday evening, 4 July. Of course, we’ll have our docktails and cookout by the pool. Another good time!
