April Monthly Meeting: There will be a potluck supper Saturday night, April 19, 2008. Drinks and appetizers start at 6:30 PM at the Activity Room at Crown Pointe Marina. Members should bring a dish to feed at least 8 people. Assignments are as follows for last name beginning with:

A-C: appetizer

D-H: main dish

I-R: salad or veggie side dish

S-Z: dessert

Ice& beverages will be furnished by the Club. There is NO charge for the dinner or beverages since everyone is asked to bring food to contribute to the potluck! After dinner, there will be an informal business meeting to discuss the York River Cup.

May Monthly Meeting: Saturday, May 17 we will be having a marvelousEnchantment Under the SeaDance. Dolphins frolic overhead as the rhythm of the waves is repeated in the music of all our favorite Oldies. This is not a dinner meeting, but heavy hors oeuvres? will be served. Email Trudy if you haven?t told her what you would like to bring. Beverages will be provided by the Club. This will be a great fun evening before the rigors of the June regatta. York River Cup dinner and drink tickets will be available for purchase.

June Monthly Meeting: Saturday, June 7 is our big public showing at theYork River Cup. Race Captain Brian Gregory assures us of another great race and we are hoping for beautiful weather. Many hands make light work, and we need every one of us to make this the biggest and best to date. This benefit for the Waterman?s Museum is our annual opportunity to be a part of the community in a grand way.

JulyMonthly Meeting: There will be aMexican potlucksupper Friday night, July 18, 2008. Drinks and appetizers start at 6:30 PM. Members should bring a dish to feed at least 8 people. This will be a true potluck without assignments. Tortillas and salsa will be provided, so bring what you like to make burritos, tacos, fajitas etc. As always, drinks and music provided.

AugustMonthly Meeting: OnFridaynight, August 15, our Chinese Dragon will help us get in the mood for the Olympics. TheChinesepotluckdinner will once again be without assignments, to allow your creativity free rein. Chopsticks and fortune cookies provided, as well as drinks and music. And you thought all the excitement was in Beijing!

SeptemberMonthly Meeting: Saturday, September 20 is our Annual Membership Meeting. Prospective and new members are warmly welcome at this poolsideLuau. Sip a rum punch while watching the fishing boat unload our very own fresh oysters dockside. A truly memorable event awaits us all. Hula dancing optional.

October Monthly Meeting: For our meeting Friday, October 17^thmeeting, dust off those old cowboy boots and practice your do-si-do?s. Professional Caller Dick Curts will teach us which way to go and have us running in circles (and squares) around each other at theYork River Yacht Club Square Dance and Barbeque! An old fashioned country potluck. BBQ provided. The party starts at 6:30 PM.

November Monthly Meeting: Saturday, November 15^thwill be our Annual Meeting. The business at hand will be discussed after a wonderfulItalian Dinner.

December Monthly Meeting: Having dealt with business last month, ourNew Year?s Evemeeting will be all fun and games at ourCasino Night. Whether you are a gambler of experience or just curious, Black Jack, Roulette and Craps dealers will be ready to relieve you of your (faux) money. Never-the-less, your faux money (provided) can make you a big winner at our midnight auction. BYOB, Asti Spumante provided. Ladies, this is the time to wear your glitziest dresses! Hats and noisemakers encouraged!

January Meeting

After dinner, there will be an informal business meeting to discuss this year's activities. If you attended the annual membership meeting in November, you know that the Board has been negotiating a lease with Crown Pointe Marina for a new home for the Club. The YRYC lease is expiring the end of February and the Bacots have said they will not renew the lease. The Commodore will give an update on the Crown Pointe discussions and what's next for the York River Yacht Club.

York River Cup Proceeds Presented to Watermen's Museum

John Hanna (left), President, Watermen's Museum Board of Directors accepts acheck for $1,457 from Commodore Jack Barnett (right) of the York River YachtClub. Proceeds from the YRYC's 2007 York River Cup race, cookout and raffleon June 17 all benefitted the Watermen's Museum.

2007 Admiral's Cup

Six YRYC and SYC boats raced in the Admiral's Cup on Saturday, 11 August. There was serious wind, big waves, and a lot of breakage. MAGPIE blew out her heavy spinnaker at the start of the race, MOVIN'ON caught their chute on a turning mark and destroyed it, and GAIL FORCE had a rudder failure and was forced to retire. Photos are available in the gallery at right. Results were as follows:

New England Cruise

Several YRYC boats are cruising New England this summer. Delphinus,Mic Mac,Camden, andElixirmet in Newport on 24 June after the passage north. The full cruise report will have to wait until cruise captain Joran Gendell returns; in the meantime, some photos from the sometimes rough but fast offshore passage aboardDelphinusare in the album at right.

2007 York River Cup Results

Conditions were excellent for YRYC's annual York River Cup, held 16 June 2007. After a short postponement, an 8-10 knot southeasterly sea breeze filled in to power the 15 boats around the course during two races. The Watermen's Museum in Yorktown, VA, was the site of the post-race party, raffle, and awards ceremony, and all proceeds from this year's event will benefit museum. Full results are availablehere, and the first round of photos are posted in the gallery at right.

2007 York River Cup

The annual York River Cup will be held Saturday, 16 June 2007. This is YRYC's flagship racing event, and this year allproceeds will benefit the Watermen?s Museum in Yorktown, VA. The race takes place near the mouth of the York River, with the skipper?s meeting at the York River Yacht Club?s clubroom starting at 1000 and the post-race party and dinner taking place at the Watermen?s Museum itself.

This is CBYRA sanctioned race #413 and the race classes are PHR F A/B, PHRF C, PHRF Non-Spinnaker, and Cruising. We strongly encourage all cruising sailors to make a weekend of it and participate in the Cruising fleet. There are slips available at York River Yacht Haven, Yorktown Riverwalk, Yorktown mooring balls, and anchoring available in Sarah?s Creek. The entry fee is $50 for USSA members and $55 for all others. The Notice of Race, Sailing Instructions, entry form and announcement flyer are attached below. Entries will be accepted until the conclusion of the skippers meeting on race day, and can be mailed in advance to Dan Fox (YRYC Race Captain), 93 Holly Grove, Williamsburg VA 23815. Monthly Membership Meeting - May 18th

Program: Chris Moore, Science Advocate for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF).
Chris will be discussing the current activities of the CBF, focusing on projects in Sarah?s Creek, and the York River, as well as the John Smith Water Trail. Chris also serves as Virginia?s finfish fisheries scientist. His work is currently focused on fisheries issues, oyster restoration efforts, grassroots development and coordination, and water quality. In addition Chris is a US Coast Licensed Captain and runs educational and restoration trips for volunteers, media and decision makers. Please join us and find out how CBF is improving the Bay, and opportunities for us all to become conservers of this beautiful natural resource.
Social and Dinner begins at 6:30 PM. Following dinner, there will be a very brief business meeting to discuss new member initiation fees and the Youth Sailing Program.
Potluck Dinner: Members A ? F: Green Salad Members G ? N: Dessert Members O ? Z: Heavy Appetizers Beer, Wine, and other beverages will be available.
*Note change of meeting night during the boating season to accommodate the many members who get out on the water for the weekend. This is great opportunity to attend the meeting, and then stay onboard Friday night for an early departure on Saturday.
