March's 1958-2025's relevant historical story circles around  and connects to the purposes and benefits of belonging to a notable Yacht Club like (OPCYC). Within this Club we encouraging, protect, and participate in knowledgeable, safe, and responsible personal discovery and adventure, around the World, on oceans  and numerous waterways. Membership and participation helps to assure that sailors and cruisers are prepared and supported, as best as they can be, for shared interests and activities in nautical communities, which is historically Racing, Cruising, along with, nautical education and social gatherings.

The OPCYC Ben and Meme Williamson Cruising Award (2003-2024)

Since the 1958 organization of OPCYC, the popular activities have fluctuated.

Jeff Rogers noted that OPCYC began primarily as a “fishing” club in 1958, and then changed, over-the-years, to mostly a racing, cruising, and now back to the current mostly known local members who are sailing racers.

The cruising activities have changed. Instead of familiar members venturing to nearby locations, together, in  groups, and now . . .

Since the recent pandemic in 2021-2022, more of our members, are venturing  around the US and World, either on their own, other’s vessels, or larger cruise ships, in and to various inviting areas.

We also have members who join our historical Old Point Comfort Club, specifically because they are venturing with a notable attachment to OPCYC with reciprocity, at numerous ports. Some have never been in a yacht or boating club, but desire to have an association, with a longtime known respected Club that has  reasonable fees and as perhaps one of their destinations.

Due to the challenge of keeping up with this changing and wider variety of cruisers. OPCYC is now awarding one of our most notable founder’s

The Ben and MeMe Williamson Cruising Award, which came into existence in 2003, awarded to twenty cruisers, beginning with Cheri & Bill Taylor on “Why Wait” and lastly to Chip & Carol Miller on “Andiamo” in 2022.
